Personalized designs

We will work together to provide the unique services you require. This can include plant suggestions for a particular area(s) of your yard, conceptual drawings to help you determine the layout of your space, or a detailed, developed master plan.

offered services

We offer many levels of design services:

  • Plant recommendations for a small area

  • Detailed conceptual/functional drawings to help illustrate how the components of the design plan will fit in your space

  • Preliminary and Master plan drawings

  • Planting plans to clearly show the quantity and location of plant material

So how exactly does the design process work???

It consists of two separate, but very important phases:

  • Research and Preparation

  • Design

Research and Preparation:

Preliminary Consultation: This initial on-site meeting with the potential client allows the designer to see the property first-hand and to discuss the needs and wants of the customer. At this time, we will also go over the answers to the design questionnaire, discuss any problems or concerns, and get an overall scope of the project. We will also review what types of drawings would be necessary to reach a final solution. Most customers prefer a traditional plan view (or bird’s-eye view), while others request additional drawings to help clarify the design.

Design Proposal: After looking over the notes taken at the preliminary consultation, an estimate clearly specifying the intended services will be presented to the potential client. This includes the type and quantity of drawings, the overall time schedule, and the estimated cost. If all looks well and the contract is approved, we will move ahead in the design process.

Base Map Preparation: If not provided by the client (e.g., in the form of a house blueprint or a detailed survey), a thorough measurement of the property and pertinent structures will be taken, keeping in mind any plant materials that are to remain. A scaled plan-view base map will then be drawn.

Site analysis: We will make an inventory and analysis of the existing site conditions that could potentially influence the design process. These include, but are not limited to: the architecture of the house, views, soil, drainage, local building code, and utilities.

Design Program: This is a list of the elements/requirements for the design solution, taking into account both the client’s wishes and any limitations or potentials of the site discovered during the client-led walk through or site analysis.

Now it is time to start creating during the design phase!!!

Design:

Conceptual/Functional Drawings: We will prepare a number of drawings showing the potential placement and relative size of the required elements outlined in the Design Program. Potential bed lines and pedestrian flow through the space will be illustrated. We will meet to discuss these drawings and come to some conclusions for the next step in the design process. Oftentimes, ideas from multiple concepts will be incorporated in the final design.

Preliminary Design: Based on the decisions made from the conceptual/functional drawings, we will prepare a design that incorporates the elements/requirements outlined in the design program. We will meet again to discuss this drawing and any changes that may need to be addressed.

Master Plan: We will then prepare the final master plan landscape design listing hardscaping materials and pattern(s), plant names (both scientific and common), and the quantities needed. Alternate plants will also be provided in case of unavailability. The master plan can then be used to secure bids for installation.
